If you’re going to be spending a few days in Edinburgh, you might want to consider taking a day trip somewhere to experience a bit more of the Scottish surroundings.
There are a few day trips that you can take when staying in Edinburgh — you can either check out some more city life in Glasgow, go explore the Highlands or visit some beaches. We decided on a beach and took a day trip to North Berwick. Otherwise, I found this article quite helpful.
North Berwick is a small seaside town with beaches stretching east and west of its harbour. There’s also the main street that is packed with quaint shops, hip restaurants, cafes, and typical Scottish pubs. The Scottish Seabird Center is great for kids or bird lovers, and I think they also do boat trips further out to sea.
We went on a Sunday which was lovely as there were quite a few people out and about, probably a few locals from the surrounding areas enjoying their weekend. It was nice to just take a walk along the beach, enjoy the sea air, feel the freezing cold water, and watch life go by.
After a few hours of enjoying the beach, we went in search of lunch and found a nice little cafe/deli with delicious Salmon! There are a few options, with the typical Fish & Chips a common favourite.
How to get to North Berwick
North Berwick is about a 45-minute drive from Edinburgh if you have a car, otherwise, you can take either the train or the bus. We took the train there, and then the bus back to Edinburgh to try out both methods. The train took half an hour and cost £6.40 and the bus took an hour and a half and cost £4.60.
Here are a few pics of this quaint little seaside town.
