There are certain places that appear on more bucket lists than others…visiting Victoria Falls would be one of them. And for damn good reason. It is nothing short of spectacular, amazing, breathtaking — take all of the cliche descriptive terms and you probably still won’t understand how cool it really is until you see it with your own eyes.
While visiting Victoria Falls was always something that I would have loved to have done, it wasn’t nearing the top of my list just yet. So when I got invited to join a press trip to visit Victoria Falls and Chobe it felt like a bonus to end off a great year — it came as a complete surprise. I knew immediately how incredibly lucky I was to get this opportunity, to see something so grand that so many people can only dream to see one day. It felt like a dream.
Even after arriving and spending a night in Zimbabwe, I still didn’t fully comprehend that we were going to see the Victoria Falls the next day…like, how did that happen? The last minute’ness of the whole trip probably made my first impression of the Falls so much more impressive, as I hadn’t really had time to build up any expectations.
My first impression in short was…’woah’.
It was so cool, and so much bigger/more impressive than you could have ever imagined that it would be.
Visiting Victoria Falls
We had a guide that met us there and took us around to the various viewpoints. You can do the walk on your own but I highly recommend getting a guide to get the full experience and get all of the extra tidbits of information. There were a couple of lone travelers that tried to listen in on our guide, proving that they felt like they were missing out on something by not having one.
One of the interesting facts that our guide told us was that the same volume of water that New York uses in a year, flows through the Victoria Falls in three days. Flip, that’s a lot of gushing water.
I’ve included a bit more information about my trip to Victoria Falls (which also included a trip to Chobe) in this blog post, so hop over there if you’re interested in planning a trip anytime soon. For now, I’ll just leave these ten photos of Victoria Falls for you to enjoy 🙂

This was my first view of the falls. It took my breath away, and the viewpoints only kept getting better.

This part of the falls was dry when we were there, so just had to imagine that whole rock face being covered.
Thank you to Africa Albida Tourism and fastjet for sponsoring this trip. As always, all views and opinions expressed are my own.
